Me and The Collections of Satria Mandala Museum

Sunday, May 22th 2011, I visited the Museum Satria Mandala. The museum is located at Jl Jenderal Gatot Subroto. Only about 15 minutes away from my home in Tebet. With price of ticket Rp. 3000, everyone is free to enjoy the splendor & the greatness of this museum. Museum Satria Mandala was inaugurated in 1972 by former President of Indonesia, Soeharto. In fact this museum was originally the home of one of the wife of former President of Indonesia, Sukarno, named Ratna Sari Dewi Sukarno. Inside this museum, can be found in various collections of war equipment in Indonesia. From past to modern like a collection of mines, missiles, torpedoes, tanks, cannons and even helicopters and airplanes (one of which is Cureng aircraft ever flown by Air Marshal Adi Sucipto Augustine). These are some of the collections that I covered from the Museum.

25 PDR/88mm Cannon
These cannon origin was from the UK. It weighs 1800 kg with the barrel lengths 2350mm. This cannon has an effective range of up to 12.25 km. In 1948, the cannon was used against Dutch troops in East Aceh. 2 years later, the gun was also instrumental in reducing Andi Aziz rebellion in South Sulawesi and the Moluccas RMS crashing. In 1957, the cannon was used against the PRRI rebellion in Sumatra. Permesta also have felt the brunt of these shells in 1958. This gun also intervened in the insurgency DI / TII Kartosuwiryo in West Java in Barata Yudha Operation (1962). The gun was finally enshrined in the Satria Mandala museum in 1972.

Sedan Dodge Dart 1 Car
At first glance, there's nothing  special about this car. The exterior is just like an old car output in 1962 in general. But, if we look carefully, this car is one of the important historical evidence that stores dark past for the rider. United States car production was once ridden by the Regional Military Commander XIV / Hasanuddin, Colonel M. Jusuf when negotiate with Andi Selle Pinrang Matollo
for the restoration of security in South Sulawesi on April 3, 1964. Unfortunately, after the negotiations finished, Colonel M. Jusuf who ride with Andi Selle was actually intercepted and fired upon by the traitors. The bullet marks that were made by the traitors can be seen in the left and right doors of the car.

Rail Panzer
This panzer was originally made in Indonesia, produced from the workshop army in Bandung. Rail panzer has a length of 5.2 m, width 2.4 m, height 2.85 m. And weighed about 7 tons. The Panzer is equipped with a Light Machine Gun shoots (SMR) which is controlled by a single crew. From the years 1955-1962, rail panzer was used to escort the armored train journey from Bandung-Banjar PP gang disturbance DI / TII.

B-25 J Mitchell Aircraft
The uniqueness of the Satria Mandala museum's collections were the replica of the aircraft. Several others are still original. One of them is the B-25 J Mitchell aircraft. These bombers aircraft was producted by Douglas Aircraft Corporation then contributed by the Air Force in 1966. In the same year, this aircraft was also perform the last services in the face of Dwikora Operation. A year before, the aircraft was helpful in Trikora Operation. In 1965, this aircraft was used in order to crackdown on rebels DI / TII in West Java, Aceh and Sulawesi Selatan.
And of course to fights the PRRI-Permesta rebels.

SA-75 Missile
SA-75 missile is one of Russia's output of products, which have important functions in the history of Indonesia's defense and security. The length of these missiles reached 10.58 meters with a weight ranging from 15.35 tonnes. These missiles can be used in all weather and all air targets including missiles. In certain circumstances can even be used against targets on land and at sea. SA-75 missiles had prepared for Dwikora & Trikora Operation of the year 1962-1966. Furthermore, from the years 1966-1983, these missiles were often used in the trial periodically in order to hone the skills of Indonesia's defense against air attacks. In the year of 1983, one of these missile was displayed in Satria Mandala Museum.
The Window Glass of Internatio Bank Building
This glass is one part of Internatio Bank Building located at Red Bridge, Surabaya. Where the incident occurred October 30, 1945 between the Indonesian side with British troops. This event marked by the death of Brigadier General AWS Mallaby as killed. Given the importance of the history of this glass, on November 28th 1987 this glass was officially enshrined at the museum Satria Mandala. Donations of Sofyan Lubis, inspector general at the inspectorate Pertamina.

General Sudirman Stretcher
This stretcher was used by the Great Commander General Sudirman in leading the guerilla war against the Dutch in Indonesia. The stretcher is becoming important evidence confirming that General Sudirman was ill when he led the guerrilla.

Ancient Bamboo Switches and Bombs
Of the many light and heavy weapons, these one mostly caught my attention. Explosive at far distance, this  type of bomb was still using bamboo switch that uses batteries. Bamboo and bomb the switch is used to maintain the independence of the years 1948-1949. This weapon was sinking by itself along with the emerge of another weapons that more sophisticated.

40mm "Blorok Bull" Cannon
This attacking cannon  is the pride of Satria Mandala museum. Maybe you could say the early establishment of the museum was also to accommodate this cannon. This gun comes from Boffors, Sweden. Having a 40mm caliber, weighing 1000 kg, length 4000mm and width about 1250mm. This weapon was overhauled by a reliable technician-by Indonesia at the time. Transferred functions of the deterrent artillery cannon to 40mm cannon complete with 2 wheels. This Blorok Bull cannon has a range starting from 5200-9725 yards. Has single shot type and automatic fire speeds up to 120 items / minute. And speed of the bullet up to 2870 feet / sec. Type 2 summarize A'4 grain bullet. Name of Bull Blorok take the basic meaning that the gun was made in Kedung Bull, and painted stripe/blorok pseudonym.

The history of this gun is much more complex and older, when compared with the cannon at the beginning of this post . In the years of 1940-1942, the gun was used by KNIL, the Royal Netherlands Indies Army to fight against Nippon. However, in the years 1942-1945, this cannon instead fell into the hands of Nippon and used to fight the allies. In 1945, the gun was seized from Nippon Indonesia. Furthermore, Blorok Bull cannon was used to fight the Dutch and allies in a military action. On September 18th 1948, the cannon is a powerful weapon in crushing the PKI / Musso / FDR in the Madison and surrounding areas. On December 19th 1948 (Military Aggression 2), Blorok Bull canon helped the resistance against the Dutch in Indonesia Military Aggression 2 in Jombang , Tulungagung, Ngujang Bridge. Last struggle of this gun was shown with Indonesia on December 29th 1948, in order guerrilla war of Indonesia against the Dutch led by General Sudirman. Fierce resistance takes place in Tulungagung and surrounding areas.

In August 3rd 1949, the cannon was consolidated with other weapons left over after a guerrilla war. In 1951, the Blorok Bull cannon was moved to  Kesatrian street, Malang. In 1953, this cannon had been a decoration in artillery education center in Cimahi. In 1954, the gun was placed at the gate of Yon Armed 5-76, Cipanas as the decoration of pride. In 1974, the gun was drawn to the center of the TNI Armed Cimahi. Realizing the high value of the history of this cannon, then on February 28th 1975, Blorok Bull cannon officially enshrined at Wisma Juang '45.

Still in the military museum complex Satriamandala there are also  Purbawisesa museum featuring dioramas when the TNI along with hordes of people crush the separatist DI / TII in West Java, Central Java, Aceh, South Kalimantan and South Sulawesi in the era of the 1960s. Other facilities available at the Museum of the TNI Satriamandala, these include the Children's Reading Garden, Souvenir Shop, Canteen and Multipurpose Building with a capacity of 600 seats.
